Edward F. Anderson passed away on October 23, 2014. He retired in 1988 as General Manager of Corporate Communications for Public Service Electric and Gas Company in Newark, N.J. He had joined the company in 1971 as Manager of Public Information. Prior to that he had been the Financial Editor and a columnist for the Newark Evening News. He began his career with the paper as a suburban reporter after graduating from Rutgers University in 1940 with bachelor of letters degree in journalism. He subsequently headed several news bureaus and was an assistant news and makeup editor before becoming financial editor. During World War II he served four years in the Navy as an officer aboard ships in the Atlantic and South Pacific. He received an ensigns commission under the Navy V-7 program after training at the University of Notre Dame and on the U.S.S Prairie State in New York. He was a full lieutenant at the end of the war. Born in Newark, his family moved to Glen Gardner, N.J. when he was an infant and where he grew up. He lived in Upper Montclair for 65 years. He was a member of the Montclair Golf Club and the West Essex Serra Club. He was a former associate board member of The New Jersey Press Association. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Catherine Anderson (MacNeil) and is survived by his children, Hugh J. Anderson of Verona N.J., Mary Anne Maday and her husband Donald J. Maday of Lakewood Ohio, Edward J. Anderson and his wife Elaine Anderson of Livingston N.J. and J. Harry Anderson and his wife Susan Anderson of Morris Plains, N.J. He also leaves eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In lieu offlowers, please make a donation to THE BREDAN P.
